5th Chakra

The 5th chakra, or the throat chakra, or in Sanskrit Vishuddha chakra, which translates to 'purity' and gives us the guiding principal wisdom for this chakra.

The throat chakra in charged with the very difficult task of processing our thoughts and articulating them in words, this chakra is all about communication in all respects, spoken and written, and of course so much can be lost in translation.

Our voice is the primary way in which we interact with others, and we have all experienced the intense feeling when this chakra is blocked, in those situations when  we haven't said what we were truly feeling, and we were forced to swallow our words, that squeezing sensation is our message from this energy centre, trying to guild us, and encouraging us to speak up from what we believe in.

Throat chakra science

According to Johanna Gardener from 'Creative Energy Healing' the thyroid’s primary function is to regulate the speed at which digestion and blood flow take place through the T3 and T4 hormones it releases into the blood stream. It acts by monitoring the levels of blood sugar and sodium that are in the blood and instructing the heart and other organs to either speed up the process or slow it down based on that information.

What happens when the Thyroid Malfunctions

If the thyroid is failing to produce the hormones that are needed to tell the body to release more blood sugar, the body begins to feel sluggish and fatigued. Night sweats, depression, and sensitivity to heat are common as the body slows itself down in order to conserve energy. Concentration is impacted. Body fat accumulates.

If the thyroid is producing too much of the hormones, it is impossible for the body to gain weight. Everything that is eaten is consumed nearly immediately. Anxiety, irritability, and sensitivity to cold are common symptoms.

The Throat Chakra

The throat chakra’s primary function is to regulate the flow of energy into and out of you. It monitors how much energy is coming into you and then switches your reception centers off when you have received too much so you can process what you’ve gotten. It opens them up again when it detects that there isn’t enough energy coming into you so that you can process more.

A Blocked Throat Chakra

If the throat chakra is blocked and not open to receiving the energy coming into you, you feel depleted and diminished. You feel like nobody is listening to you. It is not uncommon to feel overwhelmed and stressed out, as if everything were up to you. You may be prone to outbursts of anger at the injustice of how you see yourself as being treated. Resentment can begin to foster in your heart because you believe that nobody is willing to give despite all your giving.

A Throat Chakra That Is Too Open

When the throat chakra is too open, you can’t seem to get enough from the people around you. It doesn’t matter how much they give, it’s never enough to fill the emptiness in your life and in your soul. Relationships do not last long and do not satisfy. No matter how much you have, you can’t find contentment in it.

How can I help to regulate my throat chakra?

Firstly tune in and listen to the whispers of your heart, remember the essence of this chakra is about purity, so ask yourself, is what I need to say,

1. True 2. Kind 3. Necessary???

You can lift people up, or tear them down with your words, so be kind.

Singing and humming or chanting are great for balancing the energy of the throat chakra, so explore your ability to express your self through your voice.

Yoga postures that open up or compress this area are great for stimulating the thyroid gland, it can be as quick and simple as a little neck stretch, or as pictured below, hands interlocked behind you and gently looking up, or a heart opener over blocks or a bolster, also just sliding close to wall and having your legs up for a few minutes is very therapeutic for throat chakra, and your nervous system in general.

Honor thyself

Ultimately you must feel that what you express matters, and trust that what you say is heard and valued, let all that you say be infused with purity, as you create beautiful interactions that are meaningful and heartfelt.

Sending love and blessing, till next we meet.
